Intro

 Welcome

Hi! I'm Emma, and I'm a college student in my early 20's, a time notorious for self-discovery. For the longest time, I've been contemplating creating a public platform to document my journey in understanding the world around me, and I have finally decided to undertake this project. My passions include literature, cuisine, photography, horticulture, exercise, and the fine arts. In my free time, you can find me working out in the gym, spending time with friends, playing with my roommate's cat, missing my dogs back at home, or cozying up in bed to take a nap.

What to expect from my page:
  •  My life passions including fiber arts, pottery, cooking, photography, reading, gardening, and more
  •  Admiration for the human experience
  • Writings delving into the curiosities of life
  • My journey into adulthood as a young female in the professional world
Join me as a young adult experiencing life in all seasons.

My life thus far-

I was born and raised in Gastonia, North Carolina with my older brother, Drew, and two dogs, Radar and Jack. My brother alongside my parents, Keith and Lisa, are some of my biggest role models, and my relationships with them are among some of my most valued within my life thus far (and if you ask me, the same goes for my dogs)! Home cooking was always a large piece of my upbringing as well as the Catholic faith, so my knowledge of both will naturally stay in my back pocket throughout life. Hopefully, I'll be able to share that with you.

Growing up, I developed a love for all things dance (especially tap) and piano, and I dabbled in horseback riding and theater summer camps. Eventually, though, I was exposed to one of my greatest passions, cross country. I began running in 5th grade and continued through my senior year of high school, and met some of the most influential people in my life through the sport. Running has been and will always be my favorite way to stay active and challenge myself, but jumping between hobbies as a kid resulted in a jack of some trades. Ask me to tap dance or throw some clay on a pottery wheel, and I'll happily oblige with a reluctant bit of stage fright nowadays. I will become best friends with just about any animal, given enough time, and snap some pictures along the way.

I was always a kid who loved coming to school and learning, a spark I still have to this day. Currently attending North Carolina State University, I am pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Being as I was originally registered as a statistics major, my journey in college began with a prompt to evaluate my goals in life, but I knew a few things going in- I enjoyed the flow of mathematics and puzzles, I wanted a career that could support my hobbies, and I didn't want to do statistics for the rest of my life. I began joining student groups to expand my knowledge of potential future career paths and stumbled my way into Poole College of Management. After meeting several new friends in college, I realized how similar I was to my peers studying accounting. Spring of my freshman year, I enrolled in my first Intro to Financial Accounting class and actually learned what accountants do for a living. After that semester, I officially changed my degree to accounting, and here I am now. I plan to earn my CPA after graduation and pursue audit.

Now, outside of the classroom, I am a passionate tutor with TRIO Student Services, a federally funded program to provide academic aid to first-generation college students. Finding ways to share my privileges of upbringing is a value of mine, and I thoroughly enjoy building academic confidence in others - maybe I'll teach someday, who knows?! Additionally, you can find me spending time with friends, micro-delving into crafts, cooking, writing, running, or taking any opportunity to travel.

I thank you for joining me in this new project, and I hope that you find comfort in knowing that nobody has life figured out - especially me! I'm excited to use this platform to continue my learning, and I hope you learn something too along the way.

Yours truly,
Emma
